Posted under Events, Resources by Devin Cole on Monday 14 December 2009 at 5:01 pm

Boston Young Entrepreneurs’ partner WorkBar, which offers office space for a monthly fee on the model of a gym membership, has some exciting news: they’ve moved!

To celebrate, WorkBar is hosting an open house TOMORROW. I’ve heard their space is beautiful, so make sure to take a walk over and see it.

If you can’t make it tomorrow, go experience their new space at 711 Atlantic Avenue on Thursday for free co-working day.

Startup Office Space Open House - 175 McLellan Highway

Posted under Events, Resources by Devin Cole on Monday 7 December 2009 at 10:33 am

As we work on a more permanent solution to housing (officing?) the startup community in Boston, we’ll highlight potential opportunities wherever we can find them.

On that note, the East Boston Chamber of Commerce is co-hosting an open house at 175 McLellan Highway, a property that has opened itself up to startup businesses. If you need space and use the airport, service the North Shore, East Boston or Downtown, or need parking to conduct your business, this may be a great opportunity for you.

Either way, I suggest getting out there and seeing it for yourself.

More info on the East Boston Chamber’s website.

Date: December 17th

Time: 5:30 to 7:30pm

Location: 175 McLellan Highway, East Boston

Web Innovators Group

Posted under Events, Resources by Devin Cole on Friday 20 November 2009 at 2:22 pm

Venrock’s David Beisel has built a tremendous and powerful organization in the Web Innovators Group, which provides the opportunity for web and mobile startups to exhibit their businesses to a large audience made up of Boston’s entrepreneurial and venture capital community.

WebInno’s quarterly events have become can’t miss in Boston and I’ve found them both incredibly interesting and fertile ground for contacts and networking.

I hereby bestow the Boston Young Entrepreneurs stamp of approval (we’d love the WebInno stamp of approval as well, but that’s neither here nor there!) on WebInno, and recommend that you check out their next event on December 7th.

Their link will be included in the links section on the right side of the page for your reference.

ACCION and BYE Panel on Alternative Financing - November 19th!

Posted under Business News, Events, News by Devin Cole on Thursday 5 November 2009 at 3:28 pm

Please join us on November 19th at 6pm for a special BYE event in partnership with ACCION USA, where we’ll be exploring traditional and non-traditional financing options for young entrepreneurs

Come meet ACCION USA’s Elizabeth Garlow, along with two excellent BYE entrepreneurs: Urban Adventours Chief Wheel Office Andrew Prescott and Geek House Bikes founder Marty Walsh. Hey look at that! Last month we had a beer theme, this month it’s bikes…hmm, well don’t drink and bike people. Keep an eye on this blog for one more panelist, to be announced shortly.

And, in case you need more of a draw, BYE superstar Morgan First of The Second Glass will be our moderator. You know this will be awesome.

Oh wait, there’s ANOTHER draw. Thanks to our friends Chase and Kevin from Pinyadda, we get to check out some great co-work space in the former offices of Hangout.net on Chauncy Street. If your company needs a place to set up shop, this is your opportunity to see a great spot.

Date: Thursday, November 19th
Time: 6:00pm to 8:00opm
Location: Pinyadda, 110 Chauncy Street, Downtown
RSVP: Devin.Cole.BRA [at] Cityofboston.gov or on Facebook

DartBoston’s Capitalize - Meet Venture Capital

Posted under Business News, Events by Devin Cole on Friday 30 October 2009 at 10:30 am

Our friends Cort and Jake over at DartBoston have come up with a truly awesome new show called Capitalize. At the first Capitalize on November 10th, the boys are bringing 20 people to Venrock Capital where one lucky company will have a shot at pitching.

This is a ticketed event and the tickets are going fast. Now, here’s the rub. You can only get tickets by going, in person, to a DartBoston show, so keep an eye on their website and make a point of seeing DartBoston in action. They’ll be raffling off 5 tickets at each of their weekly shows leading up to November 10th.

For those of you who don’t luck out and score a ticket, you can watch the streaming broadcast and wait for the next edition of Capitalize. Hint: Flybridge Capital and Bain Capital are on the docket.

NB: Time on the calendar is a guess. Please consult DartBoston on the details.

October Main Event - Matt Webster and Drink a Better Brew

Posted under Events, News by Devin Cole on Wednesday 14 October 2009 at 12:51 pm

On October 20th, Boston Young Entrepreneurs brings you the October Main Event!

Come see Matt Webster present his business plan for Drink a Better Brew.

Matt will tell us how he built Drink a Better Brew on the idea that craft beer can be viewed in the same light as fine wines, scotches and vodkas. Matt’s educational offerings help those of us who love beer to understand and develop our tastes and the ways that our favorite brews can pair with food. Matt’s company aims to expose restauranteurs, bar owners and liquor store owners to craft beers

We’re also excited to tell you that we’re moving to a new location, at least for this month. Join us as we experience WorkBar for the first time!

WorkBar is co-working and shared office space on the gym membership model. It could be a good solution for many of you working out of your homes.
